What is a recall?

A recall occurs when your car or a specific part of your car is deemed faulty or unsafe in some way by the manufacturer or the NHTSA. The vehicle manufacturer will then inform registered owners of these problems. The manufacturer is responsible for addressing these issues at no cost to you. What is the NHTSA?

NHTSA stands for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the federal agency that upholds safety standards for vehicles and provides safety ratings for vehicles from various brands. Their mission is to "save lives, prevent injuries and reduce economic costs due to road traffic crashes, through education, research, safety standards and enforcement activity."

How do I know if the pre-owned vehicle that I'm interested in has a safety recall?

Finding recall information is easy. Simply enter the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or the vehicle's year, make and model in the NHTSA's recall search bar to find the results. Or you can enter the VIN on the Mercedes-Benz recall page. Mercedes-Benz of Atlanta Northeast can also provide you with your car's CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™, which will list any known safety recalls.

How will I find out if my vehicle is subject to a safety recall after I purchase it?

If your vehicle has a safety recall, Mercedes-Benz will inform you via phone, email or mail. This report will detail the safety risks associated with your vehicle and tell you what to do next. You'll want to make sure that your state registration information is up to date in order to receive the recall notice.
